Bending The Sides

Side Bender

Most of the bending tasks get done on this side bending machine I made.   My machine is a modified version of the one invented by my friend and fellow guitar maker Charles Fox.  In this picture I'm inserting a side between two stainless steel plates preheated by three light bulbs from 75W to 150W.  After the side is inserted and bent, it is heated for fifteen minutes to make the bend permanent.  The small tool clamped to the table is a hand bender, still needed for a few bending tasks.
