This guitar is the latest production from my workshop.  It will find its new home in the hands of a waiting-list customer in Baton Rouge, LA.  It features a back and sides of Amazon rosewood and an Engelmann spruce soundboard finished with ultra-thin padded varnish.  The tuners were invented by my most-admired luthier, the late John Gilbert.

Many have known for years about the superb functionality of Gilbert tuners. This image shows how uniquely attractive they've become, too. Good work, Greg Matonis!

    1. I agree that the Amazon rosewood and craftmanship of this guitar is absolutely beautiful. The Englemann spruce is also beautiful on this instrument.

    1. The John Gilbert tuners are beautiful and precise. The guitar is a work of art and I’m sure it sounds wonderful!

  1. Hi Paul. Do you still do intonation upgrades? I have a 1984 Ruck cd/brz; it seems like I need to do more tuning on it than on the other Ruck and Ramirez you worked on.

    Thanks,
    Bob Skrukrud

    1. My luthiery career in its late afternoon has wound down to a couple of new guitars per year, Bob. So, I’m no longer doing repairs or upgrades on other luthiers’ guitars. But it’s good to hear from you.

      1. Paul, are you still in Cleveland Mo. ? you built a 12 string guitar for me in 1981 a beautiful work of art, one of a kind, I need some work done on the guitar, I dont know if you can or can suggest someone that can repair a one and half inch hole on the bottom top of the guitar, otherwise the guitar is in good shape, it also needs a new brace bottom top. Best regards Paul.

  2. You make such beautiful guitars Paul. My mother gave me a guitar that you made for my dad Norman around the year 2000 Anno Domino after my father passed away and went to heaven. It is an absolutely wonderful guitar with Indian Rosewood and a cedar top. It has an Indian rosette band pattern on the guitar, and gold plated Rodgers tuners. My dad really enjoyed visiting your shop when we visited it. God bless. Mike Macy. Derby Kansas. 6/5/2017 Anno Domino.

  3. My dad was a Christian for many years, but when he died in the year Anno Domino 2006, he appeared with Christ in glory.

  4. I think the Gilbert tuners, Rodgers tuners, and all the other tuners are beautiful, and look great on your guitars, Paul. God bless. Mike Macy. Derby, Kansas.

  5. Hey Paul

Just wanted to say that I’ve sincerely enjoyed #57 for many years. It was a pleasure going to your workshop in KC (you’d just moved into the new location!) and spending the afternoon with you picking out wood and philosophizing about the finer points of guitar building as an art form. I still remember your little dog Doggerel running around adding his 2 cents. Thank you for the wonderful gift; it’s been a trusted friend.
